Mullin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Visit McAlester Army Ammunition Plant

Today, U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, joined the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. CQ Brown on his visit to McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) in McAlester, Oklahoma. MCAAP is the largest storage site for conventional ammunition in the Department of Defense, storing nearly one-third of our nation’s stock and employing over 1,890 civilian personnel.

“Today, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had the opportunity to witness our munitions production, visit with the civilian workforce, and see firsthand how McAlester is strengthening our defense industrial base,” said Senator Mullin. “As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, it’s my responsibility to ensure Oklahoma’s military installations have what they need to support America’s warfighters and bolster our national defense. It was a privilege to show Gen. Brown how McAlester is leading the national effort to replenish munitions supplies, and I’m grateful he took the time to discuss Oklahoma’s critical role in preserving the future of our armed forces.”

Background:

  • MCAAP is a government-owned, government-operated (GOGO) U.S. Army ammunition plant which moves over 30,000 tons of ammunition per year.
  • The mission of MCAAP is to receive, store, ship, produce, renovate, and demilitarize conventional ammunition. MCAAP provides Centralized Ammunition Management for training ammunition and contingency stocks for Army units in the southwest region of the U.S.
  • Sen. Mullin recently secured $1.194 million for MCAAP’s new Water Treatment Plant planning and design in the FY2024 National Defense Authorization Act.
